I’ve been thinking about summer over the last few days – no surprise there considering the weather we’ve been having – so I decided to post this black & white candid photograph taken a few years ago during the annual Mermaid Parade on the boardwalk of Coney Island, Brooklyn.

There is something about this picture that grabbed me as soon as I had taken it last week on the Upper West Side in Manhattan.
The image is part of a feature assignment for DNAinfo.com covering a local neighborhood Restaurant month which will feature all kinds of eateries from small family run affairs to the more eclectic and trendy cafe’s and supper clubs that populate the area.
But, getting back to picture, and having looked at it again whilst writing this post, the image reminds me somewhat of The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci from the 15th Century.
The paintings behind the diners represent the three windows behind Christ’s head, the composition of the table and the interaction of the Bistro’s diners are the disciples of Christ and the warm orange light reminds me of the beautiful sunsets I saw when I spent some time it Italy over twenty years ago.

I’ve been mad busy during the month of April running to news assignment for DNAinfo - the popular hyper-local news website in New York City – hence, so I haven’t had a chance to publish anything to the blog for a while!
So here’s a black & white street shot taken of a local homeless chap in Washington Heights as he walked along the 181st Subway station platform earlier this week.

Kinda’ like this in color but may well re-post in B&W at a later date?
I think this photograph shows that people of all ages are prepared to support the Occupy Wall Street movement and that this political and philosophical group is not going away anytime soon.
